Sophisticated Approaches to Hip Pain

In some cases, hip pain can be treated with physical therapy, medications and steroid injections. But those solutions don’t work for everyone. The experienced hip surgeons at Beaufort Memorial employ advanced techniques to replace damaged hip joints with stronger, man-made artificial joints.

Thanks to our advanced approaches, you may be able to have your joint replaced and return home the same day to recover in comfort.

Mako SmartRobotics™ Total Hip Replacement

This advanced system employs 3D technology to create a model of your hip that orthopedic surgeons use to create a personalized joint replacement. During the procedure, surgeons use robotic equipment to precisely place the new joint. As a result, you heal faster and get back to life more quickly.

Anterior Hip Replacement

With the anterior approach, our orthopedic surgeons replace the ball and socket of the joint from the front of the hip. Unlike traditional hip replacement methods, the anterior approach does not require detaching nearby muscles and tendons. That equates to a shorter hospital stay, quicker recovery and a reduced risk for hip dislocation following the surgical procedure.

Direct Superior Hip Replacement

In the direct superior approach, the hip is replaced through a single incision in the back. Similar to the anterior approach, this preserves the major tendons and muscles around the hip joint. In addition to a faster recovery, the direct superior approach allows for higher levels of accuracy during surgery and greater hip stability and less potential for dislocation after surgery than traditional hip replacement methods.

Posterior Hip Replacement

The most common technique used for hip replacement surgery, posterior hip replacements are performed through a single incision on the backside of your hip, bypassing your primary leg muscles. This technique is considered the tried-and-true approach to hip replacement. In addition to a low risk of complications, it allows surgeons excellent visibility and accuracy.
